The Bolen Report - New to Me

I have my list of "regular" websites I view on a regular basis -- to attempt to stay up to date on what's happening in the world AND also decipher what's real, what's deceptive and what needs to be applied to my family.

I recently came across the following website and I confess... I do lurk around there rather often, to be honest.  Thought provoking -- yes, and it inspires me to keep on, keeping on -- for the health of my family.  It can be exhausting, feel defeating, disappointing (to say the least) to think that we live in a country, time and place that allows such... such... (loss of words) such inexcusable things to happen to our food supply, medical care (vaccines) and so forth.  Disheartening.  Sad.

Moving along, setting aside my feelings, I'll point over to The Bolen Report:

Adventures in Autism: CDC Vaccine Recommendations in Childhood Hits 70.....: "Ding! Ding! Ding! America wins a prize!!! CDC wants your child to have 70 vaccines by the time they are 18 years old! 70! ...50 of those..."


I have been meaning to post about this...  it still shocks and disturbs me.  It's been almost 2 months since this news came out and I am still weak in the knees.

Now that my summer bloggie break is over, I am re-acquainting myself with the feelings of sadness, shock, disbelief and some fear.  Might as well admit it -- it's scary!

Yet...  there is still hope.  Without knowing all this "stuff",  I would be just as ignorant as the next person...  and, my real hope, my very, very real hope is in God.  Yes, all this "stuff" that we learn about is heavy - really heavy.  Using an old word -- burden...  or in this case, burdens or worries.  Or maybe even call them concerns...  whatever I call them, there is an action I take, in my heart.  I have to try to let go of the worry and ask God to take it from me.  Turn it over, let it go, turn the burden over...  it all means the same thing.

I am but a mere mortal mom and cannot carry the weight of this negativity.  I do believe that the Maker can though.  The following old hymn goes through my head sometimes.  Reminds me of when I was a child and sat next to my grandmother on Sunday mornings, in a little country church... just like you hear about. . .  and old hymns bring comfort to me.

I Wondered About This...

I've been wondering how the unused flu shots were disposed of. I know that some people wonder about health care, about political parties, about the oil flowing... and I know many people do not worry or even bat an eye at questioning the safety of vaccines.

I guess that I don't either... now. Now I know. I have known the last few years and I know who my child was, is and I know we cannot go back in time, and "un-do" the damage to his immune system. Oh there's just a lot I could say, but - really, I just want to share this post from over at Age of Autism, by Ginger Taylor.

Ginger is an amazing mom. I've followed her blog on and off over the last couple of years. I have to say it again: she is amazing.

The Greedy Do Not Surprise Me Anymore

Read this over at The Age of Autism, this morning.  I am not surprised and I have my own thoughts about why things happen.  ((The love of money!))  I am living with my own thoughts each and every day, in our created chaos.  I am living with an ill child...  and sometimes I am so close to the situation, that I forget what "normal" or "usual" are.  Really, broken pencils are the usual.  Yelling, crying, huffing and puffing are the usual.  So on and so forth...  my own thoughts resulting from the life I now live.

Specifically, why the CDC and FDA allow our children to be injured...  (Sigh)  But, it's already a damp, foggy day here - no need to make it worse.  Not going to focus on that right now... here's the story though:

Do NOT Let Your Child Get Flu Vaccine -- 9 Reasons Why

This year it is more important that you protect your children and loved ones from the flu vaccines than influenza itself. This article on Lew Rockwell discusses how:

  1. The swine flu is simply another flu. It is not unusually deadly.

  2. This is the first time both seasonal and pandemic flu vaccines will be administered. Both seasonal flu and swine flu vaccines will require two inoculations. This is because single inoculations have failed to produce sufficient antibodies. This is an admission that prior flu vaccines were virtually useless. Can you trust them this time?

  3. Adjuvants are added to vaccines to boost production of antibodies but may trigger autoimmune reactions. Some adjuvants are mercury (thimerosal), aluminum and squalene. Why would you sign a consent form for your children to be injected with mercury, which is even more brain-toxic than lead?

  5. Over-vaccination is a common practice now in America. American children are subjected to 29 vaccines by the age of two. Meanwhile, veterinarians have backed off of repeat vaccination in dogs because of observed side effects.

  6. Modern medicine has no explanation for autism, despite its continued rise in prevalence. Yet autism is not reported among Amish children who go unvaccinated.

  7. Researchers are warning that over-use of the flu vaccine and anti-flu drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza can apply genetic pressure on flu viruses and then they are more likely to mutate into a more deadly strain.

  8. Most seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus strains tested from the United States and other countries are now resistant to Tamiflu (oseltamivir). Tamiflu has become a nearly worthless drug against seasonal flu.

  9. Public health officials are irresponsible in their omission of any ways to strengthen immunity against the flu. No options outside of problematic vaccines and anti-flu drugs are offered, despite the fact there is strong evidence that vitamins C and D activate the immune system and the trace mineral selenium prevents the worst form of the disease.

Reminder: How to Protect Yourself without Dangerous Drugs and Vaccinations

There will always be threats of flu pandemics, real or created, and potentially toxic vaccines will continue to be peddled as the solution until enough people realize there’s a better, safer, saner way.

You can break free of the drug-solution trap right now by following these natural health principles. I have not caught a flu in over two decades, and you can avoid it too, without getting vaccinated, by following these simple guidelines, which will keep your immune system in optimal working order so that you're far less likely to acquire the infection to begin with.

  • Optimize your vitamin D levels. As I've previously reported, optimizing your vitamin D levels is one of the absolute best strategies for avoiding infections of ALL kinds, and vitamin D deficiency is likely the TRUE culprit behind the seasonality of the flu -- not the flu virus itself.

    This is probably the single most important and least expensive action you can take.

    I would STRONGLY urge you to have your vitamin D level monitored to confirm your levels are at a therapeutic level, which is between 50-65 ng/ml. I also recommend using a reliable vitamin D lab like Lab Corp, if you’re in the U.S. Sometime this fall, we hope to launch a vitamin D testing service through Lab Corp that will allow you to have your vitamin D levels checked at your local blood drawing facility, and relatively inexpensively.

    If you are coming down with flu like symptoms and have not been on vitamin D you can take doses of 50,000 units a day for three days to treat the acute infection. Some researchers like Dr. Cannell, believe the dose could even be as high as 1,000 units per pound of body weight for three days.

    However, most of Dr. Cannell's work was with seasonal and not pandemic flu. If your body has never been exposed to the antigens there is chance that the vitamin D might not work. However the best bet is to maintain healthy levels of vitamin D around 60 ng/ml.

  • Avoid sugar and processed foods. Sugar decreases the function of your immune system almost immediately, and as you likely know, a strong immune system is key to fighting off viruses and other illness. Be aware that sugar is present in foods you may not suspect, like ketchup and fruit juice.

  • Get enough rest. Just like it becomes harder for you to get your daily tasks done if you're tired, if your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Be sure to check out my article Guide to a Good Night's Sleep for some great tips to help you get quality rest.

  • Have effective tools to address your stress. We all face some stress every day, but if stress becomes overwhelming then your body will be less able to fight off the flu and other illness.

    If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using an energy psychology tool such as Meridian Tapping Techniques, which is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma.

  • Exercise. When you exercise, you increase your circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of finding an illness before it spreads. You can review my exercise guidelines for some great tips on how to get started.

  • Take a good source of animal based omega-3 fats like krill oil. Increase your intake of healthy and essential fats like the omega-3 found in krill oil, which is crucial for maintaining health. It is also vitally important to avoid damaged omega-6 oils like trans fats found in most processed foods, as it will seriously damage your immune response.

  • Wash your hands. Washing your hands will decrease your likelihood of spreading a virus to your nose, mouth or other people. Be sure you don't use antibacterial soap for this -- antibacterial soaps are completely unnecessary, and they cause far more harm than good. Instead, identify a simple chemical-free soap that you can switch your family to.

  • Eat garlic regularly. Garlic works like a broad-spectrum antibiotic against bacteria, virus, and protozoa in the body. And unlike with antibiotics, no resistance can be built up so it is an absolutely safe product to use. However, if you are allergic or don't enjoy garlic it would be best to avoid as it will likely cause more harm than good.

  • Avoid hospitals and vaccines. In this particular case, I'd also recommend you stay away from hospitals unless you're having an emergency, as hospitals are prime breeding grounds for infections of all kinds, and could be one of the likeliest places you could be exposed to flu bugs of all kinds.

    As a side note, please beware that 21 different pediatric Tylenol products have been recently recalled due to the possibility of bacterial contamination. So, if your child comes down with cold or flu symptoms, make sure you do not give him or her a potentially contaminated product.

    Better yet, help your child recover using more traditional cold and flu remedies, such as, hydrogen peroxide solution in the ear, zinc lozenges, high quality raw honey, or a homemade cough syrup. Numbers, Sad Numbers

October 5th? ((sigh))

I don't blog as much I used to. School takes up much of my time. For example...

I accidentally gave Nick food with corn syrup in it last Monday night and it was OBVIOUS within 20 minutes! We went out to eat at a Mongolian grill - had them cook Nick's food in the back, not on the cross contaminated grill. No corn oil; used canola. Used all the fresh veggies & meat. It was the sauce! I hadn't realized that what was once a safe sauce, was before we knew about Nick's corn allergy. (Tongue twister?) Sure, it was gluten-free, MSG-free and dairy-free. But - not corn free...

Nicolas was a mess the whole next day ((school should have been canceled)) and then, on Wednesday, guess what I did? Just as he was starting to come back to his "normal" self, I fed him the leftovers from Monday night! Oh yes I did! It was then, that I actually came to realize the connection with his behavior. Wow - it was noticeable, to say the least.

I don't spend as much time over at Age of Autism as I used to. It's depressing, right now, for me to have to learn anything new. I am living with all I can handle right now and my dog is getting old.

Yes, I said that my dog is getting old. She's 16 and I am content to have her by my side while all the chaos goes on around me. She just hangs out and keeps an eye on me, in between naps, that is.

BTW - this is day number 18 (maybe 17) without coffee. No coffee for the last 2 1/2 weeks! I made it past my previous record of 15 days. This is the 4th time I have quit in the last 24 years. I don't know, but - maybe it will be my last time? I dunnooooooooo... I am still craving it and am not in the clear yet. Time will tell...

Are YOU Protected From Mercury?

I guess that's a silly question and I should come up with a better title for this post. Maybe I will.

So, where or how does one get mercury poisoning? Shots - right? Oh, but they removed all the mercury (thimerosol) from vaccines and immunizations - right? So, then - where does it come from!??!

I know, I have a bit of an attitude. Even though it's calm and quiet here, I know that today will be filled with drama and squeeling -- oh, and crying too. Not a day goes by without tears (Nick's, that is)...


Back to the mercury. Time to tell it like it is - no different than any other post. Below are a few facts about mercury from the SafeMinds website.

What is mercury?
Mercury is a developmental toxin that occurs naturally in the environment, as well as produced by human activities that increase occurrence in the environment. It exists in several forms: elemental or metallic mercury, inorganic mercury compounds, and organic mercury compounds.

What are the effects of mercury exposure?
Mercury in all forms is an acknowledged neurotoxin. High levels of mercury in the blood-stream of unborn babies and young children impairs brain development. Mercury has been linked to NDDs, such as mental retardation, Attention Deficit Disorder, autism and other impairments affecting behavior, mental and emo-tional health. According to the EPA, 1 in 6 women of child-bearing age already have levels of mercury in their bodies considered harmful to unborn children.

What is thimerosal?
Thimerosal contains ethyl-mercury, a documented and dangerous neurotoxin. It is used as an inexpensive preservative in vaccines. Developed in the 1930’s and marketed by Eli Lilly, thimerosal has never been tested using modern safety standards.

What amount of mercury in vaccines is safe?
The National Academies of Science set the safe standard for thimerosal based on The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) guidelines for methyl-mercury, 0.1 micro-grams per 2.2 pounds of body weight per day. Some vaccines, like the flu shot, contain as much as 25 micro-grams of mercury, over 10 times the safe limit for an infant.

I haven't slept well since reading this

I know, I know... I am supposed to try to keep things positive. That was one of the original reasons that I started to blog. There's just so much going on in my head that I need to get it out - well, sorta.

I have asked and asked and asked if Nick's dental work could have anything -- I mean anything at all to do with the onset of his condition... and every time the answer has been "no". No, dental work could not have brought his condition out. Nope.

Nicolas was a 30 week preemie and (before he was even full-term), he was given 5 shots the day he was released from the NICU in 2001. The shots did, in fact, have thimerosol in them. Poor baby... And, I have wondered and wondered if his 4 fillings and one silver crown could have had anything at all to do with mercury or with his ability to handle it and again... I was told "no". I am still told NO.

I just accept the little pat on my over-worried mother head and go in search of the next dentist to bother. Same response. Fillings are completely safe. (Gag...)

So, why then do (my memories) the thoughts of Nick's dental procedures keep coming back into my mind? He had the dental work and then, starting having behavior issues. Am I so desperate for a "cause" to his condition that I keep searching? No. I do not believe it was just one thing. Don't fight me on this one. I can feel my "instinct" rising... and, I am the parent of a little 7-year-old boy who wasn't always like this. Parents know their children. I know my child. Remember, Nicolas did not show any symptoms of ASD until after the age of 4. The only symptoms he showed prior was that he did not like the texture of some foods and he hated strong, chlorinated city water. And, I don't know if I can even call those "autism symptoms"... good grief. We have always had reverse osmosis water and I hate city water too. It's disgusting...Grrr...

Anyway, if you're in a less-than-optimistic mood, you may want to consider leaving this post and not reading the rest. I will honestly tell you that I was pretty teary eyed after reading this article at the Autism Research Institute (ARI) regarding fillings. I haven't slept well since.

I will post something positive next week. Maybe I'll show you the latest addition to our family. He's pretty cute!

Recommendations for Safe Dental Care

On June 12th, 2008, the FDA finally admitted on its website that silver fillings in our teeth are toxic and harmful to our health, and that they "may have neuro-toxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses."

ARI asked Dr. Donald Robbins for his recommendations for safe dentistry.

"While most of us are aware of mercury exposure from dental amalgam fillings, many are not aware that about half the dentists in the United States still use them. For most people, concern ends there, because most people are not aware of exposure to other toxins caused by simply walking into an average dental office.

Let’s explore what kinds of chemicals are used--and not controlled--in these offices. For instance, a dental office might advertise proudly that they do not use mercury dental fillings, but instead replace old silver fillings with the newest white bonded ones, while they in fact are exposing their patients, their staff, and themselves to mercury vapor in their office every minute. Mercury vapor is released in extremely high concentrations when the silver filling is heated incidentally during the drilling procedure. Unless specific precautions are taken to control the mercury vapor released every time an old “silver” filling is drilled out, that vapor is contaminating everything in the office. In addition to the vapor, minute toxic particles are sprayed into the air during filling removal."

"Remember, mercury can have serious negative short-term impact on your health. People who cannot excrete mercury efficiently (like young children with ASDs from thimerosal in vaccines, or from another source of mercury) are at a higher risk for bad reactions. But mercury also has insidious long-term effects that progress slowly, such as Alzheimer’s disease or cardiovascular damage. Children who already have been injured by mercury exposure have demonstrated an inability to adequately excrete this metal. Any small addition of mercury will have a magnified effect, and may cause a relapse of negative health symptoms.

You must take control of your health decisions. Know the facts, and know about the treatment practices of any medical or dental office you use."

And, of course Dr. Mercola has something similar to say. Why didn't I see this before?

Just How Much Mercury Do These Fillings Release?

"Remember, any kind of stimulation can cause these fillings to release mercury. Eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, grinding your teeth, chewing gum, anything. If you want to see the vapors released for yourself, watch this shocking video.

Mercury vapor from the amalgams passes readily through cell membranes, across the blood-brain barrier, and into your central nervous system, where it causes psychological, neurological, and immunological problems.

For an interesting comparison, consider that scientists recently made a wise warning about eating mercury-contaminated seafood. Well, eating such seafood will expose you to about 2.3 micrograms of mercury a day. A single dental amalgam filling, meanwhile, releases as much as 15 micrograms of mercury per day.

But that’s not all. The average person has eight amalgam fillings and could absorb up to 120 micrograms of mercury per day. Clearly this is cause for urgent action to be taken. I was NO different. I had 16 fillings by the time I was in college.

What to Do if You Have Mercury Fillings

I do not believe that pregnant women and children are the only ones who need to worry about the mercury in silver dental fillings. I highly suggest that if you need to get a filling, you see a biological dentist who can recommend a truly inert material that will not harm your health.

I also recommend that you have any existing amalgam fillings removed … but avoid making the mistake I did 20 years ago by having it done by a non-biological dentist. You see, when you have these fillings removed you can be exposed to significant amounts of mercury vapors if the dentist doesn’t know what he or she is doing.

Although they may be more than technically competent and one of the most skilled dentists the earth has ever seen, if they haven’t received training in how to remove mercury safely let me strongly assure you they will harm you.

My mercury exposure from having this done improperly nearly caused me to lose both my kidneys and go on dialysis. Fortunately, I have access to some of the best medical minds on the planet and I was able to have the problem reversed.

For this reason, I suggest you get healthy BEFORE having your fillings removed, as you want your detoxification mechanisms optimized prior to removal.

Once you’re ready to go ahead with it, I’d say only about 5 percent of dentists know how to remove these fillings safely, so do your research and seek out a highly qualified biological dentist. Some things that need to be done to keep you (and your dentist) safe during the procedure include:
  • Providing you with an alternative air source and instructing you not to breath through your mouth
  • Using a cold-water spray to minimize mercury vapors
  • Putting a rubber dam in your mouth so you don’t swallow or inhale any toxins
  • Using a high-volume evacuator near the tooth at all times to evacuate the mercury vapor
  • Washing your mouth out immediately after the fillings have been removed (the dentist should also change gloves after the removal)
  • Immediately cleaning your protective wear and face once the fillings are removed
  • Using room air purifiers"
I find myself muttering a familiar phrase: "I didn't know... I just didn't know."
